Eels

There are two main types of eels in New Zealand, the shortfin and the longfin. Eels are getting less  because of the loss of their wet land habitat.  Shortfin eels at about 15 to 30 years and longfin eels about 25 years but they can reach up to 80 years, they go to Pacific Ocean to breed and die. Eels are normally nocturnal witch means they like to come out at night. The Maori word for Eels is Tuna.

Me and my brother went up on our motorbikes to the dam and court 13 eels. They were differnt sizes. The biggest one was 25 cm long I think it was a mixture of both shortfin and longfin.

  2. Nice work, Andrew. You have found some great facts and certainly taught me a thing or two! Maybe next time you could add some photos of you holding one? Or you could make an animation of your trip to the dam and then you catching the eels.
