Compare and Contrast Horizon Texts

Compare and Contrast Texts: Paragraph  Synthesis  30.10.2020

Text One has a strong mood/atmosphere of positiveness.  Language features the writer used to show this mood were adjectives such as endless blue clear...,verbs such as hoping floating and believe and adverbs such as gently

In comparison, Text Two has a strong mood/atmosphere of negativity Language features the writer used to show this mood were adjectives such as treacherous, scorched and ethereal..,verbs such as raged

escaped  and adverbs such as still

The difference in the moods created between the two texts is because of the connotative meanings of many of the words. Many words in  Text One made you feel positive..

whereas many words in Text Two made you fell negative...

These two texts are evidence that when writers choose words very

carefully, they are able to create quite different moods even though the

language tools they are using are the same.

Creepy Crawly

In Term 4, Week One we had to solve a maths problem about creepy crawlies in an alien zoo.  Some had 4 legs and some had 3. We had to have a combination of 3 legged animals and 4 legged animals to make 48 legs in total. I had so much fun with this activity. Here is my work. I hope you enjoy it.

 Kia ora

We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number
(a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

Dog, Cat and Bob have some chickens. Dog has 6 chickens Cat has 4 chickens and Bob has 5 chickens how many chickens do they have all together?

6+4=10

10+5=15

Measuring feet and heads

 Hi,

This week we were measuring feet and heads using a piece of string.  First we had to estimate our feet and heads before measuring our piece of string against a metre ruler.
What was hard? Getting the measurement from the string and ruler.

What was easy? Writing the  measurement  on the slide.
